BSA Singles Restoration 9780957066526 Books

I was disappointed in the level of detail of this book - I was expecting more of a "how to" than a litany of changes over the years. Mr. Bacon's knowledge is encyclopedic, but the book is mostly a chronology for each aspect of the motorcycle - engine, transmission, brakes, etc. "This changed, then that changed, then they quit making them." While the casual reader might not be able to say what year Bantams first got a rear swingarm, the casual reader (like me) probably wants more detail as to how to deal with that swingarm. If you have, are buying, or would like to get a BSA single, you probably will want the book just for the photographs, which are numerous, detailed, and useful. But do not count on this book for restoration guidance - it is far to general, and mostly just a list of what changed, which year. Disappointing.

BSA Singles Restoration 9780957066526 Books Reviews

Not a must, but a great book for the owner of the BSA unit single and the BSA enthusiast in general. The title is a bit deceptive - it's not really a "how-to" restoration guide, rather, it's a collection of information about the bikes. The chapters take you through each model's evolution and the book concludes with a wealth of appendices covering everything from serial numbers to carb. set-up. A great book for facts, figures and photos - just don't expect a detailed workshop guide. -Bill Litant, president emeritus, BSA Owners' Club of New England
