WatchWeres Inc. is a millennia-old corporation fighting a secret war. It’s not a world Morgan Shelby has any clue exists. She’s a hooker on the run, driven by fear and new, unexplainable urges.
Royce Calhoun, Wolf Fount and Were king, is more than happy to explain how she’s changing and introduce her to his world.
When her change spirals out of control and her past comes back to bite, secrets are uncovered that make it clear all is not well among the Weres.
The Wolf Fount WatchWeres Inc Book 1 eBook Gayla Drummond
This was my first book by Gayla Drummond and I'll definitely be checking out her others!Beforewarned - this is not the usual paranormal romance. Morgan is the typical strong but damaged female heroine, Calhoun is the typical alpha male-slvt, and they have the typical "insta" connection... but everything diverges from there. Biology is NOT destiny in this case and while they might need to get along for the good of the world, that doesn't mean that it's going to be easy sailing. I LOVED IT. So many books have the heroine putting up with all sorts of crap from the hero - not in this book. Morgan not only lets him have it when he deserves it, but when he tosses her away because he doesn't think she could be his "fated," she does her bit of being sad, and then she picks herself up and MOVES ON. With a man that actually deserves her. Not only that, but just knowing that there's a bit of fated business going on doesn't mean that she has to give into it. Calhoun is going to have to actually man up and deserve a second chance with her- and honestly, who knows if he's even going to get one.
I love Morgan. She's damaged, she's feisty, she's got a bit of a temper, but she's also strong, realistic, and exactly the type of heroine that I often wish a main character would be. Not once did I think "oh no... she's letting him get away with everything while she just sits there like a puritanical Harlequin virgin". Uh, uh, none of that. Morgan knows she deserves to be someone special to someone else, she's not going to put up with some jerk changing his mind about her just because of "fate" or a biological imperative. It was perfect.
Drummond does quite a bit of world building as well, all of which incredibly enjoyable. There's vamps vs. shifters but they're not entirely of this earth. Not all vamps are necessarily bad, but the good ones are very few and far between. Not all shifters are good either, and a lot of possible upheaval is hinted at for the future, which should be a lot of fun to read about. Morgan and Calhoun are going to be forced together for practical reasons, and I hope we get to see a lot of him groveling and shaping up his act, as well as getting to know Morgan better so that when (if) they do get together, he'll actually be worthy of her and appreciate her for all she is.
Personally, I'm hoping for a menage relationship, because I adore Thane, the third point of the triangle (I'm not calling it a love triangle because Calhoun kinda messed up any hope for quick love from Morgan, and their relationship is going to take a lot of work till he gets to be part of an actual LOVE triangle). This is so well handled, because Thane appreciates Morgan for who she is before anyone realizes she might be the fated female half of shifter leadership. They help each other as she deals with the difficult transition from human to shifter, and I really don't want to see him hurt in the end.
This book is so fantastic. It's everything I've been wanting in a romance, ignores so many of the tropes and cliches, and gives the reader a real heroine who is NOT going to put up with shoddy treatment from her so-called hero, and she's not going to demand better from him, she's just going to go get what she deserves from someone else.
Outside of the romance, the world building is fascinating and wonderful, the side characters are interesting and complex, the villains are not as scary as they could be because they only get brief focus for the moment but their potential is enormous and I can't wait to see where everything goes. And now I'm off to check out Ms. Drummond's other books while I impatiently wait for the next one in this series!

The Wolf Fount WatchWeres Inc Book 1 eBook Gayla Drummond Reviews
I'm not really sure, I liked how the book started up, but then it fell into the pnr thropy totally (the whole alpha males team and dark and troubled man) and I'm really fed up with those so I dropped it. It is thought my own personal feeling about it, that might change in the future,
This book has a kind-of standard plot from what I have read of the genre (werewolf scifi). The king of the wolves and a mysterious female hook-up, but the specifics of the characters and how they are written are what make it different. It's rather gritty, and the writing is so straight forward about it. It opens with the female lead stealing from a john and then bargaining her way out of the resulting beating with sexual favors. One thing I really admired about the hooker thief is that she was never once ashamed about who she was or tried to hide it. The wolf king was not without his flaws, and the ending is not what you expect. Those are the reasons I think this book is worth a read and will be looking for sequels.
Good book. Reviews don't do it justice. Girl was a little annoying with her unjustifiable mood swings but I'm happy with her pick for partner at the end. That said the book was fast paced and exciting.
I liked this book. I read the other reviews and some people didn't like the heroine. I loved her. She starts out crude but she grows. She is also not the typical heroine (he doesn't want me so I will sit and pine for him). She gets knocked down and she comes up swinging. She finds a good mate better suited for her than her original object of desire. To the author please keep them together! I hate books where the man treats a woman horribly but as soon as he is ready to accept her she runs into his waiting arms. In real life once a douche always a douche. This author recognized that the nice guy deserves a win
So a charming playa gets fed a bit of karma. Years waiting for his one and only to pass her up, ignore the signs and then dump her abruptly as any other. Instantly using others to forget her influence... yeah doing that to anyone wouldn't make a harmonious future. But since we are talking immortal creatures, I suspect time might give Cal's ancient sole some hope. The story an intriguing concept but the characters could use some more depth. Cal was most well rounded and regretfully more fully understood. Thane the silent tortured soul is a natural to be paired with a damaged spirit such as MORGAN, but I wonder what happens when they are both whole? A good start to series but really hoping for a bit more depth if any others are to follow.
